Can trucks be removed from our city?
Not all of them, because deliveries must be made to and from different locations within Geelong. However, apart from logs for chipping and grain, not enough use is made of the rail system.
If only Alcoa shipped their products out by train rather that truck, a significant number of trucks would be removed from the road. A rail-spur built to Alcoa would also serve other industies being developed in the Moolap area - around Moolap Station Road.
However, if they must use trucks, then a combined bridge/tunnel from Point Henry to Avalon Beach would reduce the trip times and costs for Alcoa quite considerably.
